Prime Minister visits Vietnamese Embassy and compatriots in Sweden

Shortly after arriving in Stockholm, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc took time to visit the embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Sweden.

At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sweden Doan Thi Phuong Dung reported to the Prime Minister and the delegation about the prosperity in Vietnam-Sweden relations and updated the situation of the Vietnamese community here. The Ambassador said the Embassy always maintained close relations with the community of more than 18,000 Vietnamese people living, working and studying in all regions of Sweden.

Currently, Vietnamese people have owned dozens of big enterprises and hundreds of shops in Sweden. Most are diligent, studious, progressive, healthy, preserving the good qualities of Vietnamese people and constantly striving to integrate into Swedish society, Ambassador Doan Thi Phuong Dung said.

Besides, a large number of Vietnamese intellectuals with high scientific and technological knowledge is a great human resource to contribute to the construction and development of the country.

During the meeting, representatives of the Vietnamese community expressed their joy to welcome Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, his spouse and Vietnam High-ranking delegation to visit Sweden officially.

Representatives also expressed their desire for the Party and State to create more favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to apply for the re-issuance of citizenship, land and housing ownership in Vietnam.

For his part, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his emotions to meet with officials, Embassy staff and Vietnamese community in Stockholm. The Prime Minister reviewed the valuable and effective support and assistance that Sweden gave Vietnam during the difficult war time, especially the great contribution of the late Prime Minister Olof Palme.

In peacetime, Sweden has accompanied Vietnam 's development with many practical projects such as maternal and child health care, improving the lives of ethnic minorities in mountainous areas, green development, environmental protection, education and culture.

Though Sweden’s investment in Vietnam remains modest, investors from the Scandinavian country are running projects using world leading modern technology in information technology and telecommunication, the PM said.

He highly evaluated the working outcomes of the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden in the fields of external affairs and citizen protection.

He praised the embassy for promoting trade between the two countries and Sweden’s investment activities in Vietnam.

The PM informed the overseas Vietnamese about Vietnam’s socio-economic situation and asked them to make more contributions to the cause of national building and development

He expressed the hope that the OVs will build on their achievements and integrate better in the host society.
