This is in recognition of the diplomat's positive contributions to the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership development during her term of office in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Nga congratulated the Ambassador on her successful working tenure in Vietnam. She hoped that the diplomat, in any position, will make more contributions to consolidating and developing the bilateral relationship.

Expressing his honour to receive Vietnam’s noblest order for foreigners, Cecilia pledged to do her utmost, in any future positions, in order to accelerate the friendship and solidarity between the two countries’ peoples

She wanted to dedicate the order to all those who, Italians and Vietnamese, build up the Italian System in Vietnam and over the past few years have allowed to achieve significant results in many areas of bilateral cooperation.

The ambassador also expressed her belief in further progress of Vietnam – Italy ties.

Such award represents further evidence of the sincere friendship that binds two countries, which this year celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the strategic partnership, she said.

Italy is currently the fourth biggest trade partner of Vietnam in the European Union while Vietnam is the biggest trade partner of Italy in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Over the past five years, two-way trade neared USD 5 billion each year, and both sides are working to lift it to USD 6 billion for 2017-2018. Within 10 years, from the fourth place, Vietnam has become the largest trade partner of Italy among the 10 ASEAN member countries. /.
